ACS FAQ: users
There are two kinds of user accounts:
- accounts for using the ACS interface: the normal accounts
- accounts for accessing the ACS server: the NT accounts
The normal user accounts are created to grant different rights to different users. This assigning of rights is done in two ways: on an individual basis or on group basis. The first option is discussed in the general FAQ: how do I add a user account for one study?
This FAQ is about user accounts for users that belong to a group or "responsible centre". There are several of these groups, for example:
- GG&GD (group 1)
- CLB (group 2)
- Virology (group 3)
- NATEC (group 4)
- Authorised viewers (group 10)
- Project administrators (group 1000)
(see listgroups for a complete list)
Users that are not logged in can view information about studies/publications and about datasets: it is not possible for them to view information about ID's in the sets or about ACS ID's.
Anyone who is logged in can see information about all objects in ACS: publications, information about datasets plus all ID's and ACS ID's.
At this moment (august 2001) only users belonging to group 1 to 4 (and of course the project administrators) can add objects to the database! Creating a new group will not automatically give the users of this group rights to add their own tables, studies, ID's , etc.

You can get a list of al user accounts (expired or not) by logging in as project administrator and choosing from the project administrator menu the option list users.
In this list you can click on a User ID to edit or delete the account.
By clicking on the button "add new" you can add a new user: the edit form will be opened.

Apart from the user administration in ACS, there are also user acounts on the server on which the pages are located. At this moment (august 2001) this server is manintained by Kender-Thijssen (0318-558800; Jaap Beekhuis). These NT accounts are relevant when uploading datasets or when downloading a copy of the ACS database.
